What is Sage?

Sage is a fragrant, silvery-green herb belonging to the mint family. It has a warm, earthy flavor with hints of pine, citrus, and pepper. Sage has been used for centuries in cooking, traditional herbal practices, and ceremonial rituals. Fresh or dried sage pairs wonderfully with poultry, pork, vegetables, beans, and herbal teas.

INGREDIENTS:

1 can (15 oz) white beans, drained

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp fresh sage, chopped

1 garlic clove ~ 1 tbsp lemon juice

Salt and pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS:

Blend all ingredients until smooth.

Adjust seasoning.

Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Creamy Sage Mushroom Soup

Rich mushrooms and aromatic sage create a comforting soup ideal for cool evenings.

INGREDIENTS:

2 tbsp butter

1 lb mushrooms, sliced

1 onion, diced

1 tbsp fresh sage

4 cups vegetable broth

½ cup cream ~ Salt and pepper

INSTRUCTIONS:

Sauté mushrooms and onion in butter.

Add sage and cook 1 minute.

Add broth and simmer 20 minutes.

Blend partially if desired.

Stir in cream and seasonings.

Maple Sage Glazed Carrots

Sweet maple syrup and fragrant sage transform ordinary carrots into a memorable side dish.

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb carrots, sliced

1 tbsp butter

1 tbsp maple syrup

1 tsp fresh sage

Pinch of salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

Cook carrots until tender.

Melt butter in a skillet.

Stir in maple syrup and sage.

Toss carrots in glaze and serve.

Sage Lemonade

Refreshing citrus and cooling herbs make this a wonderful summer beverage.

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup lemon juice

4 cups water

½ cup honey

6 fresh sage leaves

INSTRUCTIONS:

Lightly muddle sage.

Combine all ingredients.

Chill for 1 hour.

Serve over ice.

Sage Herb Focaccia Bread

A beautiful artisan bread topped with olive oil, sea salt, and fresh sage leaves.

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb pizza dough

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp chopped sage

1 tsp coarse sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

Press dough into a pan.

Dimple the surface.

Drizzle with oil and add sage.

Bake at 425°F for 20–25 minutes.
