TURMERIC is a rich source of curcumin, a natural polyphenol with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This vibrant, golden-orange spice is highly valued for its ability to enhance the color, flavor, and nutritional content of various food products. As a member of the ginger family, turmeric is derived from the rhizome of a plant native to Asia and has been utilized in culinary practices for centuries. Additionally, it has been employed in traditional medicine, including Ayurvedic and Chinese practices.

Turmeric: Research-Based Benefits and Considerations

RESEARCH FINDINGS:

Studies suggest that individuals with osteoarthritis may experience reduced joint pain when turmeric is incorporated into their diet. Turmeric’s effects on mood disorders, including depression and dementia, have also been explored; however, more research is needed to confirm its effectiveness in these

SUPPLEMENT USE: Important Considerations

Higher intake of curcumin—the active compound in turmeric—is not necessarily more beneficial and may pose risks when consumed in excess. It is generally recommended to obtain curcumin through whole food sources, such as cooking with turmeric, rather than relying on supplements, tinctures, capsules, or gummies.

SAFETY NOTE:

  • Turmeric supplements may increase the risk of kidney stones, particularly in individuals with a personal or family history.
  • Curcumin supplements contain significantly higher concentrations than gwhat is typically consumed through food or beverages like turmeric tea.

 

TURMERIC Recipes

Melt & Pour Turmeric Soap

Prep Time: 10 miin.    Set Time: 3–4 hours (or overnight)

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb (2 cups) Goat Milk Melt & Pour Soap Base

1 to 1½ tsp Turmeric Powder (for color & skin benefits)

1–2 tsp Essential Oil (Cinnamon, Lemon, Orange, or Lavender)

Optional: 1 tsp Honey (for moisture)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Cut the soap base into small cubes and place in a microwave safe bowl.

Melt in the microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring between to prevent burning.

Stir in the turmeric powder until completely combined. Add essential oils and honey if using.

Pour the mix into soap molds. Spray the top with rubbing alcohol to remove bubbles.

Let it stand at room temperature for 3–4 hours or until hardened.

Gently remove the bars from the mold.

* Turmeric can stain fabric - use caution.

TURMERIC Ginger Salad Dressing

INGREDIENTS:

½ cup extra virgin olive oil

¼ cup apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon finely chopped shallot

2 teaspoons honey

1 teaspoon Ground Turmeric

½ teaspoon Ground Ginger

½ teaspoon Sea Salt Grinder

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a small bowl or jar, combine the olive oil and apple cider vinegar.
  2. Add the chopped shallot, honey, turmeric, ginger, and salt.
  3. Whisk (or shake, if using a jar with a lid) until the dressing is smooth and well blended.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. Serve immediately over salads, roasted vegetables, or use as a marinade.

STORAGE:

Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

Shake well before each use.
